Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen
was organized in February 1983 at Child's Restaurant in Pensacola, Florida. For 30 years, our goal has been to reach out to homeless men, women and children in an effort to meet their needs both spiritually and materially.
Our desire is to provide a safe, clean, uplifting environment for those in our community who find themselves in need. We want to offer our guests hope for a better future. We believe that a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ is the essential foundation for this hope and future.
We feel that just as important as the service to the poor is, so too is our individual need to serve God's poor. We offer an opportunity for the local community to do just that. As Jesus said, "Come. You have my Father's blessing! Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me . I was ill and you comforted me, in prison and you came to visit me." It is written:
"He who sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will reap bountifully. Everyone must give according to what he has inwardly decided; not sadly, not grudingly for God loves a cheerful giver. God can multiply His favors among you so that you may always have enough of everything and even a surplus for good works, as it is written: "He scattered abroad and gave to the poor; his justice endures forever." He who supplies seed for the sower and bread for the eater will provide in abundance; and he will multiply the seed you sow and increase your generous yield." 2 Corinthians 9:6-10

Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen serves approximately 4,600 meals to the homeless each month. A hot breakfast is served at 7:00am, Monday through Friday, lunch is served on Saturday at 11:30am and dinner is served on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5pm. In addition to these meals, we also serve lunch and dinner to our emergency shelter families seven days a week.
Much of the food that is served has been donated from the community. Food is picked up by Loaves and Fishes daily (and as needed) from local stores, bakeries, produce companies, food suppliers and others. Individuals and organizations donate prepared foods, canned goods, meats, fish and produce. Because of these faithful donations, Loaves and Fishes is able to supply ample high quality, nutritious meals to those in need.
Throughout the week different volunteer crews prepare and serve meals to the public and to our shelter families. Volunteers are the heartbeat of the kitchen and because of their dedication to "the least of these" we are able to serve many men, women and children in need. Please pray that God will continue to bless us as we serve Him

EMERGENCY FAMILY SHELTER
Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen opened its Emergency Family Shelter to house families on a temporary basis in May 1991.We provide one week of emergency shelter for 10 families. We also offer an Extended Stay Shelter Program, in which Emergency Shelter Residents are selected to stay in our shelter for up to 90 days. Loaves and Fishes Emergency Family Shelter Program/Extended Stay Shelter Program includes private rooms, cafeteria style meals, parenting classes, life skills classes, counseling, clothing vouchers, diapers, items for personal hygiene, and referrals to supporting agencies
Our shelter has a full-time case manager who does individual case management. Our staff is invaluable in supporting, encouraging and assisting families who are under extreme stress and trying to make important decisions regarding the future of their family.
Each family is given intensive social work with regard to goal planning, financial planning, employment skills, educational opportunities, counseling and parenting. Additionally, the program can offer limited assistance with medical care, transportation, clothing vouchers, and referrals to appropriate community resources. Families are also ministered to spiritually in terms of their Church affiliation. Visiting church representatives from Churches who support this program offer our program families much needed support.
THANK YOU
Loaves & Fishes Homeless Shelter is so thankful for the team from Hillcrest Baptist Church that came out Saturday to help paint 10 shelter rooms for the homeless. After flooding in May, we were forced to refer the needy to other facilities. Thank You to Kathryn, Jordy, Josh, Cary, Ryan Frank, Danny, Chris, Benjamin, Allison, and Avery! Their spirit and love for Jesus allowed God to equip the unequipped and help us move closer to serving those in need.
Thank you Hillcrest for answering the call of brotherly love! From the staff of Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen & Homeless Shelter.

What Is It? The Family Housing Program is a joint Christian effort of area churches and individuals teaming up with Loaves and Fishes FHP staff in order to help homeless families with children by providing a furnished home and supportive services. Families in FHP are evaluated each year for program eligibility. There is no limit to their stay in the home if program requirements are followed, and program goals are achieved.
Who Refers The Family To The Program? Our referrals come from Loaves and Fishes Emergency Family Shelter. When a vacancy occurs in one of our homes, potential families are interviewed and evaluated for eligibility as candidates for this program.
What Is Offered To The Families? Each family is given intensive social work with special emphases on goal planning, financial planning, employment skills, educational opportunities, counseling and parenting. Additionally, the program can offer assistance with medical care, transportation, clothing vouchers, and referrals to appropriate community resources. Families are also ministered to physically and spiritually. Visiting representatives from churches supporting the FHP offer the families much needed encouragement and care.
Who Supports The Home? Area churches link arms to support the households both monetarily and spiritually. They contribute $150-$200 per month to help supplement expenses such as food, transportation, utilities, telephones, maintenance, staff, office expenses, taxes and insurance. The more churches committed to helping the FHP, the more families we can assist. Each church names a representative or mentor who visits and ministers to an individual family. The representative is invited to periodic joint meetings with other church representatives. The representatives receive periodic reports from the FHP regarding program updates and updates on their individual family, which they can then share with their church congregations.
How Many Homes Are In Operation Now? We currently have 14 churches of all mainline Christian denominations participating and supporting 11 homes: 2 in Santa Rosa County and 9 in Escambia County.

“Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.” - Luke 7:6-7
The faith of a soldier, as stated in the book of Luke, amazed Jesus! “When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, ‘I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.’ Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.” (Luke 7:9-10) Let us be like the soldier with faith that whatever healing we need, whether it is physical, financial, or emotional, Jesus is the answer!
We are so honored this month to be able to give back to a US Service Member in need. He and his family found themselves in need of shelter due to loss of civilian employment while serving in the National Guard. This family has been exemplary in our Emergency Shelter Program, and they are on their way to obtaining permanent housing. We have accepted this soldier and his family into our Extended Stay Shelter Program, and now employed, the father is able to set funds aside to save for their future housing needs.
Please continue to pray for this family and all the other families we serve here at Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen. So many have found employment and are reaching goals for their families. Your support helps us to continue to feed, shelter, and share the love of Jesus with those He has entrusted to us. There is nothing greater than witnessing lives transformed, so thank you for helping us change lives!
Peace in Yeshua,
Rick

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
It was late at night, the night before a November cold front that the night shift shelter manager went to take the trash out to the dumpster. He was startled by the sounds of a baby crying in a car parked in our parking lot. Getting closer to the car he realized there was a family of five huddled in the vehicle. The shelter was full all except a newly remodeled room that had been completed that very evening.
Holding back the tears from the sight of children trying to sleep with barely room to stretch their legs, the house manager inquired of their homeless situation. This family recently moved to Pensacola in hopes to start a new life. The family member they were staying with no longer welcomed them in their home. That evening in November, we were able to invite this family into a newly renovated beautiful shelter room.
Through our Emergency Family Shelter Program their immediate survival needs were met; allowing the parents to focus on higher goals for their family. Both parents have been able to accomplish their goals of gaining employment. They are now saving for a house of their own!
Praise the Lord for the “Holiday Cheer” that comes from the abundant giving of our supporters! Your giving and prayer support helps Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen give the hope that these families need to change their lives for the better. The Lord is pleased with your cheerful giving!!
Peace in Yeshua,
Rick

“Let us not become weary in doing good...” I don't know how we did it, but we did it. Two-hundred Christmas dinners, full of turkey, dressing, casseroles and desserts served in forty-five minutes. That included a talent show put on by some of our guests, complete with dance moves and all! It was a celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior. Jesus truly is the reason for the season.
We now move into a brand new year. Full of opportunities to share the love of God, both in the word and deed. In all the areas of ministry of Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, the Soup Kitchen, the Emergency Family Shelter, our Transitional Housing Program for families with children, the after-school program, our Thrift Store, and our ministry to elderly homeless men (Simeon House), we trust the Lord to provide, as He has for the past thirty some odd years. Millions of meals served, tens of thousands have heard the Good News of God's love, and thousands have been clothed and sheltered.
Thank you for all of your help in making this happen. We pray you will continue to be a part of God's work as we reach out to the “least of these.” Please know you are in our prayers, and we thank you for praying for us. May you have a blessed new year.
Peace in Yeshua,
Rick
